(Ship Room Raters Project) Work Plan

Memo

To:              Dr. Carla Kungl
From:          Ship Room Raters
Subject:       Work Plan
Date:           October 2, 2009

Purpose
The purpose of this memo is to provide you with our work plan pertaining to the development of a website for Ship Room Raters. The website is primarily intended for students at Shippensburg University seeking off-campus housing. We will discuss the topic we have chosen for the website, our time schedule represented by a Gantt chart, a list of our group’s policies, and a job description of our project leader.

Our Topic
The project we decided to undertake for our website is to provide housing resources to the freshman class of Shippensburg University for after their first year when they are hunting for new apartments. Our reasoning for this is because when we were freshman, we thought it would have been useful to have a website that offers student reviews about housing units around campus. In order to accomplish our goal of providing these resources, we conducted informal research in order to determine the most popular off-campus housing units.

Later we are going to survey students who live in these units and use that information to develop our website. Based on questions ranging from cleanliness, location, security, and others, we will provide a thorough resource for all potential tenants.

We anticipate that the website will have an overview map of the town with the locations of major apartments and townhouses sectioned off. The website will focus on three specific student housing communities, which will be represented in our individual pages. This will allow those who visit the site to compare and contrast them at the click of a mouse.

Project Activities
To best illustrate our planned project activities, we will include within this document a Gantt Chart. (Fig. A) We also have attached our full work schedule. (Table 1)

Group Policies
Below is the list of our group policies:
·         A team member must provide ample notification to the group leader if they are to miss a meeting.
·         The work must be completed on the date it is due.
·         If deviant behavior continues to happen from a group member, the professor will be notified to allow for further discipline.
·         If a general consensus cannot be met within the group, then it will be settled by flipping a coin.
·         Before work is submitted, the group as a whole must proof-read it.
·         If anyone has a problem with another group member, the group leader must be notified first.

Project Leader: Mike Edwards
The job of the group leader is to keep the group on task, as well as lead meetings, coordinate communication amongst the group members, and be the liaison between the group and the professor. The group leader for our group will not assign any work to group members. The group will handle all assignments as a team.
